Mark your calendars! The 2017 UNL Women in Science Conference for high school students will be held March 31-April 1. Registration will open in January.

The 19th Annual Women in Science Conference will be held at the Embassy Suites in Downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. Sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR and the UNL Center for Science, Mathematics and Computer Education, this two-day event brings high school girls from across Nebraska and the Midwest region to the UNL campus to explore their interests in science careers. Women in Science is for students who want to interact with career and academic professional women in science, meet current female science students and other high school girls who are interested in science, and discover countless professions as diverse as biologists, geologists, engineers, food scientists, computer scientists, and those in the medical fields.

The 2017 keynote speaker is Dr. Terri Norton, Associate Professor of Construction Engineering in The Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction. Dr. Norton’s research interests lie in energy efficient and sustainable construction and the effects that natural hazards have on civil structures. In 2016, she received a six-month Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant, which she will use to examine how Japan recovered from a devastating earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
