This year, the Nebraska Writing Project was awarded a grant to collaborate with the American Creed Project, an ongoing multiformat PBS project sparked by the documentary film American Creed. This project focuses on encouraging students to explore various ideas and identities related to their own communities.
Through this grant, NeWP is partnering with Alison Finn-Couch and 9th-graders at North Star High School, along with the UNL English Education program, to engage students with content created by young leaders who are impacting their communities.
The students will then use the content as mentor texts to create their own work. They will be crafting various photo essays that focus on an argument for change within their own communities.
The students' work will be published through a platform hosted by KQED, the public media station.
