The Nebraska Writing Project offers multiple camps for writers of various age groups each summer. We are happy to share updates from this years' camps.

Young Writers Camp:

We had 30 participants this year at the Young Writers Camp, varying from 7th grade, all the way through 12th grade! Many of these young writers were returnees from last year's camp! Some participants included a very dedicated, creative bunch of kids who carpooled from Kearny, NE (almost two full hours away!)!

The workshops this year had a large variety, from poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, but some fan favorites were "Intro to Stand-Up Comedy," multiple DnD themed workshops, and a few on rap/songwriting.

Our visiting writers this year were: Timothy Schaffert, Zedeka Poindexter, Gina Tranisi, and Shawn Rubenfeld.

The annual writing marathon tradition is still going strong! We had a whole day of writing around Lincoln, some favorite stops being the Sheldon Art Museum and the Children's Museum, before all meeting up at Crescent Moon Coffee for a read-aloud.

In other great news, nearly all of the young writers submitted work this year to the camp anthology! Check out this page to see it: https://newp.unl.edu/youth-and-community/young-writers-camp/

I/We Love to Write Camps:

The I Love to Write, I Love to Write2, and We Love to Write Summer Workshops were held June 9-13, 2025, at the Animal Sciences Complex on the UNL East Campus.

The Celebration of Writers event, where all students read out loud, was held Saturday morning, June 14th, in the auditorium of the Animal Sciences Complex located on the UNL East Campus

This was the 23d summer of the I Love to Write, I Love to Write 2, We Love to Write Summer Workshops and the 13th year to be sponsored by the Nebraska Writing Project.

This year, we had a total of 33 participants show up to write! Each daily session included a mini lesson/activity, time to write, and a time for each person to share their writing. Discussion/feedback followed as requested.

There was a writing marathon on Thursday during each of the workshop times.

This year's facilitators were Sandra Peter and Susan Dinsdale – Thank you!

New this year were two guest speakers who shared information about their writing experiences and plans to publish. Question/answer time followed.

From happy to sad, serious to funny, and any topics along the path, writings were heard and enjoyed by the wonderful audience of friends and families! A big shout-out to all participants! Friendships were formed, phone numbers exchanged, plans for next year were shared, and parents joined in conversations with each other.

During this week, participants were able to embrace their individual writing styles, share their ideas, and discuss in a comfortable writing environment.

The 2025 “I Love to Write/We Love to Write workshops” were a success! Everyone’s writings were unique, amazing, and appreciated!
