Students speak up about Native experiences on campus

In the model of OASIS’s safe spaces to discussion current events and campus issues, UNL’s Human Trafficking and Migration Initiative will collaborate with the University of Nebraska InterTribal Exchange (UNITE), to hold a Dish It Up student speak out about Native students’ experiences at UNL. UNITE student leaders will facilitate a discussion of what it is like to be a Native student at UNL, how violence against Native people impacts UNL’s community, and of UNL students’ perspectives of the challenges that Native people face.

The discussion take place from 11:30 am to 1 pm in the Unity Room of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural center. It will be preceded by a short video to sensitize all participants to the violence that Native people face, and to the issue of missing and murdered indigenous women. Free pizza and free t-shirts will be provided by the Student Alliance Against Trafficking.

This event is free and open to the public. Participants should come prepared to contribute to a safe space.
