Explore and Understand: Environmental Injustices

Environmental injustices are defined as problems with environmental systems and resources that may have emerged as a result of human developed infrastructure and interference. Additional social issues may emerge as a result, which can impact surrounding communities and have long-lasting effects.

Keep Nebraska Beautiful: April 17

From its inception, Keep Nebraska Beautiful has been a nonprofit focused on waste reduction, recycling, and community beautification. Students have the opportunity to clean up antelope trail and other parks near campus on Monday, April 17th from 4pm to 6pm.

NeighborWorks of Lincoln: April 18

NeighborWorks Lincoln was founded to combat economic inequities in our neighborhoods and build healthy communities. Students have the opportunity to place flyers in local neighborhood and assist with cleaning up a neighborhood on Tuesday, April 18 from 2pm to 4pm.

River Keepers: April 19

River Keepers coordinates efforts in conservation, safety, recreation, riparian restoration and water quality among local agencies in the Fargo, North Dakota/Moorhead, Minnesota region. Students will have the opportunity to turn old t-shirts into totes to help reduce plastic waste on Wednesday, April 19 from 4pm to 6pm.

Habitat for Humanity: April 20

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Students will have the opportunity to help at the Habitat For Humanity Restore office by placing items on shelfs and sorting donations on Thursday, April 20 from 2pm to 4pm.

Lincoln Children Zoo: April 21

Lincoln Children's Zoo is home to over 40 endangered animals including the Sumatran tiger and Matschie's tree kangaroo. Students have the opportunity to assist the children zoo by cleaning out habitats, laying down mulch on Friday, April 21 between 2pm to 4pm.

We are inviting Students to Submit a Story of Engagement before the end of every month so we can include them in future volunteer digest newsletters. The Story of Engagement blog will recognize Huskers who have participated in helping a nonprofit either through volunteering, raising proceeds, or conducting research.
