With new classes, friendships and responsibilities, transitioning from home life to campus is a big change. An important part of this transition is managing your health. This guide is designed to help you take control of your health while on campus.

Find the health center
Make a trip to the University Health Center during your first few days on campus, even if you aren’t sick. This way, you’ll know exactly where to go if you ever need to visit. The health center is conveniently located at 550 N. 19th St., across from Eastside Suites.

Build a first-aid kit
Visit our pharmacy to stock up on over-the-counter essentials like pain relievers, cold medicine, bandages and more to build your first-aid kit. Having these items in your room or backpack can help you manage common illnesses and injuries without needing to rush to the store.

Plan for a healthy diet
Whether going to the dining halls or cooking your own meals, eating well is essential for staying energized and focused throughout the semester. Whatever your nutrition goals may be, consider meeting with our registered dietitian, Sarah Keegan. Your first consultation is covered by student fees!

Prioritize sleep
Not getting enough sleep can cause a lack of concentration and a weakened immune system. To help you get the rest you need, check out our article on sleep tips for advice on creating a consistent sleep routine.

Contact the health center
Put the University Health Center’s phone number into your phone so you don’t have to search for it. Call 402.472.5000 to talk with the phone nurse or schedule an appointment. Appointments can also be scheduled online for illness and injury concerns at https://health.unl.edu.

The University Health Center is here to support you every step of your college experience.
