The Nebraska University Students Against Modern-Day Slavery and The Bay, a non-profit organization that provides a safe haven for Lincoln youth, are sponsoring the Nebraska Human Trafficking Summit today.
This free event is in the Nebraska Union Ballroom. Doors open at 9 a.m. The summit is aimed to help spread awareness of human trafficking in Nebraska.
The keynote speaker will be Kathryn Bolkovac, who was the subject of the film “The Whistleblower." The film highlighted the issues of human sex trafficking, military contractors and one woman’s fight for justice.
The film was screened at a United Nations General Assembly, leading to a panel discussion on sexual exploitation.
The all-day summit starts with opening remarks at 9:15 a.m., followed by Bolkovac.
At 11:30, a new website will be launched, followed by a short lunch break. In the afternoon other subject specialists will speak, followed by a panel discussion. A screening of "The Whistleblower" will close out the event.
