Free Yoga Foundations Series Begins Nov. 3

UNL Campus Recreation is offering a free yoga series to inform and enhance knowledge of yoga and its benefits. The series includes three different class options, offered twice each for 75 minutes. Classes are:

• Beginning Yoga
Nov. 3 | 4-5:15 p.m. | Rec & Wellness Center, East Group Exercise Studio
Nov. 6 | 5:30–6:45 p.m. | Campus Rec Center, Fitness Room

Students will learn fundamental poses and routines frequently used in yoga classes, including sun salutations, caturanga, updog, downdog and basic vinyasa sequences. Instructor will also teach how to connect these sequences with breathing for effective technique.


• Advanced Poses
Nov. 10 | 4-5:15 p.m. | Rec & Wellness Center, East Group Exercise Studio
Nov. 13 | 5:30-6:45 p.m. | Campus Rec Center, Fitness Room

This class will build on beginning poses to work toward more advanced ones. Instructor will demonstrate how certain sequences can prepare the body for more advanced poses including using hip openers for EPKII, twisting poses for side crow and caturanga for arm balances.


• Yoga at Home
Nov. 17 | 4–5:15 p.m. | Rec & Wellness Center, East Group Exercise Studio
Nov. 20 | 5:30-6:45 p.m. | Campus Rec Center, Fitness Room
Students will learn how to continue the practice of yoga in their own home, including creating a flow on the spot and combining different poses sequentially. Practices of Slow (yin) Yoga, Power Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga will be discussed. Instructor will focus on building flexibility in all areas of the body.


The six classes are free to all UNL students and Campus Rec members. All other attendees must pay a $10 facility fee. No registration is needed, but class size is limited. Participants are encouraged to arrive early.
