MATH 805T: Discrete Mathematics (Class # 2958, Sec # 951) will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 17-21 in Scottsbluff for grades 6-12 teachers. The instructor for Math 805T is an award-winning teacher with roots in the Nebraska panhandle. Dr. Cheryl (Olsen) Miner grew up on a farm in Banner County where her father and brother still both ranch and farm. Cheryl attended Banner County High School before heading to Lincoln, NE where she earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Nebraska. After serving on the faculty in mathematics departments at Shippensburg (Pennsylvania), UNL, and Nebraska Wesleyan University, Cheryl has returned to farming. She now lives with husband, Jess, and daughter, Lynne, near O'Neill, NE.

We have already awarded more than 150 fellowships to Nebraska teachers and have around 50 more to give out. Join your colleagues today in applying for an NMSSI Fellowship by May 20: https://cse.unl.edu/scimath/apps/apply.php. All current Nebraska mathematics teachers also automatically qualify for a 20 percent reduction in the cost of tuition.

This course is designed to deepen knowledge of discrete mathematics as it relates to topics covered in middle through high school curricula. Course topics (such as graph theory and counting techniques) are introduced through "hands-on" explorations through which various problem-solving strategies are emphasized.
