What will you learn in Summer 2016 that will enhance your ability as a mathematics teacher? Get one step closer to your master’s degree or continue your professional development experience this summer by taking a course for secondary teachers offered in Scottsbluff through UNL's Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes.
This summer, TEAC 880E: Teaching with Technology: Instructional Technology in Mathematics (Class # 4028, Section # 951) will be offered at ESU 13 from June 13-17 for grades 7-12 teachers. Additional stories below contain a course description and steps for registration and applying for a fellowship.
**Registration**
Summer registration is now open. If you have taken NMSSI courses before, go to http://myred.nebraska.edu to complete the registration process. If you first need to apply to UNL’s Graduate Studies, complete the application at Teach Nebraska http://www.unl.edu/gradstudies/teachneb.
**Fellowships**
For all on-site NMSSI courses, current Nebraska teachers automatically qualify for a tuition fellowship from UNL equal to 20 percent of in-state, graduate tuition. Additionally, Nebraska K-12 teachers can apply for supplemental NMSSI Fellowships to further defray tuition costs for NMSSI courses. See our NMSSI website for details.
**Master's Degrees**
The availability of NMSSI courses has led to an increase in the number of math teachers who earn a master’s degree. To learn more about opportunities to earn a master’s degree that emphasizes learning math for teaching, visit http://scimath.unl.edu/csmce/mastersdegreeinfo.php.
**MAT Online**
Math teachers interested in pursuing a master’s degree now have the option of pursuing a fully online Mathematics Master’s program (http://online.unl.edu/programs-and-courses/graduate-doctorate-programs/master-of-arts-teachers.aspx). This option gives teachers a new flexibility to accomplish their education goals. The online MAT program is designed to help teachers strengthen their skills in pedagogy and deepen their knowledge of the mathematics they teach.
