The Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes (NMSSI) offers graduate courses in mathematics for teachers in a weeklong format to help you take advantage of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's professional development opportunities conveniently and affordably.
The following three weeklong courses for grades 5-12 mathematics teachers are coming to Central Nebraska this summer (June & July):
* MATH 807T: Using Math to Understand our World (class # 14271) for grades 7-12 teachers will be held in Hastings from June 5-9;
* MATH 808T: Concepts of Calculus (class # 3315) for grades 6-10 teachers will be held in Holdrege from June 19-23; and
* MATH 802T: Functions, Algebra and Geometry (class # 14262) for grades 5-9 teachers will be held in Grand Island from July 10-14.
Each course is from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and includes free lunch. Most courses will meet at an ESU office or a district administration office, rooms TBA. See course descriptions in the accompanying stories in this email.
To enroll in UNL graduate courses, follow the four steps outlined on the NMSSI website, http://scimath.unl.edu/nmssi. This year we are offering 30 courses across the state (including the courses for the new TEAMS grant, which is still taking applications until May 1) and online to meet your professional development needs. Check out our course catalog, which supplies the needed class numbers for either Teach Nebraska registration or MyRED.
For all on-site NMSSI courses, current Nebraska teachers automatically qualify for a tuition reduction equal to 20 percent of in-state, graduate tuition. Additionally, Nebraska K-12 teachers can apply for supplemental NMSSI Fellowships to further defray tuition costs for NMSSI courses. Read more about the costs at: http://scimath.unl.edu/nmssi/2017/costs/. The NMSSI Fellowship Application is also now open at http://go.unl.edu/scimathapply.
