OLLI Woodworking Interest Group Meeting

The arrangement calls for a 2 p.m. meeting with Park Service staff members at the Park Service maintenance facility; southside of Hwy 4, approximately 1/2 mile west of the Visitor Center.

Since our last meeting I was successful in arranging a meeting to discuss the school desk rehab project at Homestead Nat'l Monument. If you did not hear the project discussion during the September meeting, know that it consists of fabricating replacement seats and tops for desks the US Park Service will install at the nearby Freeman School. Images of the desks can be found on the Homestead Nat'l Monument website.

The tentative bench and coat-hook project for Ft. Robinson is moving forward, albeit slowly. Upon hearing my favorable response to fabricating benches which would be historically accurate, I sensed significant enthusiasm for the proposal. To that end staff members will search the Park furniture inventory with the hope of finding a surviving example. If a bench from the time period cannot be located (said to be most likely), they agreed to review a large collection of historical photos in hopes of finding images which we could use in estimating dimensions and developing a set of plans.
