The OLLI Woodworking Special Interest Group is taking a field trip on Thursday, April 27, to Thomas-Scheele mill near Hickman. The group will meet at 2:30 p.m. at Stauffer's Café and Pie Shoppe, 5600 S. 48th St. and carpool to the mill. The mill site is located at 11260 Stagecoach Road, Hickman, in the vicinity of Wagon Train Lake. Directions can also be provided if needed. We will likely be done at the mill by 4:30. Park along the west side of the lot at Stauffer's in order to minimize the impact on business traffic.
This is a family owned operation that utilizes wood from their property to mill slabs and boards. The family harvests, mills, sells slabs and boards, and replants sustainable crops on their land. It will be a treat to see this conservation-oriented operation. There will be some opportunity for walking; a repurposed golf cart may facilitate moving people around.
If you are not on the email list for this SIG, please contact the facilitator so that we can account for you in the carpool. Refreshments may be offered on site.
