Surgical robots have the potential for performing surgery in remote locations such as battlefields and space travel. Join us to hear Shane Farritor, professor of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, talk about his work with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) to create miniature surgical robots.
These small robots, less than 2 pounds, are inserted into the body for surgery and are remotely controlled by the surgeon. The methodology was tested earlier this year when Clayton Anderson, retired U.S. astronaut and Nebraska native, operated a robot at UNMC from his control panel at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
