Three important reminders from the Health Center

The University Health Center is a vital, on-campus health care resource for your student.
The University Health Center is a vital, on-campus health care resource for your student.

Before your student visits the University Health Center this semester, check out these reminders from our staff:

Appointments are required to be seen for most services.
The University Health Center is not an urgent care facility, which means we do not operate on a walk-in basis. This allows us to balance illness and injury care with preventive exams and visits for ongoing medical concerns so that we can serve the holistic medical needs of our students.

If a student has an acute concern, same-day appointments may be available. Situations that may warrant same-day appointments include a rash, the flu or high fever, sprains/strains, and persistent vomiting and diarrhea. The best way for your student to be seen the same day is to have them call as soon as we open in the morning.

Students can make an appointment by phone at 402.472.5000 or in person at the check-in desk on level two.

In most circumstances, it is better to have the student call on their own to schedule appointments.
This is not only a great learning experience for your student, but they also are the only ones who truly know their schedule. When parents make an appointment for their student, the selected day and time often conflicts with their classes or work, causing them to skip their appointment. This not only keeps your student from being seen as soon as possible, but also takes up an appointment slot that might have been used by another student who truly needs it.

Any services not covered by student fees will have a charge.
Student fees cover some, but not all, services at the health center. The following are typical services that will have a charge:
• Medical procedures
• Preventive exams and routine physicals
• Specialty visits (psychiatry, optometry, etc.)
• X-rays
• Immunizations besides flu shots
• Physical therapy
• Lab services beyond doctor-ordered wellness profiles and covered STI testing (chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV)
• Prescriptions and over-the-counter items
• Dental services
Services with a charge can be submitted to insurance or paid for out-of-pocket at a discount. If you or your student have questions about whether a particular charge will be covered by your insurance, contact your insurance company directly at their toll-free number, which is usually located on your insurance card.

If you have any questions, call us at 402.472.5000.
