The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is committed to student success, especially during these unprecedented times.
In response to the difficult circumstances many students have experienced because of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the university adjusted some of its policies for Spring 2020 to make sure students were not adversely affected by circumstances beyond their control and could continue to progress toward their degrees.
UNL continues to remain focused on ensuring students have the fullest opportunity to achieve their best academic outcomes during these challenging times.
Spring student support
Policy changes and deadline extensions were posted on the university's COVID-19 website throughout the semester and are summarized below. Visit covid19.unl.edu for full details.
- Guidelines for academic probation and dismissal were revised to provide additional support for struggling students. In addition, no undergraduate students will be moved to probation or dismissed from the university as a result of grades earned for the Spring 2020 semester.
- The Pass/No Pass policy was expanded for undergraduate and graduate students. Students will have until May 29 to switch Spring 2020 courses from a letter grade to P/NP. This means they can actually see the letter grade they have earned in a course before deciding whether to change to P/NP grading. To make this switch, students are required to consult with an academic advisor.
- A temporary attendance policy was put in place to support students who were sick or engaging in self-quarantine. Students did not have to provide formal documentation from a health care provider and were not penalized for absences.
- The deadline to withdraw from a course was extended to April 24 to enable students to experience the remote learning environment before deciding whether to withdraw.
Summer course options
The university is continuing with remote learning for summer session undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses at the in-person tuition rate for resident and non-resident students with university program and facilities fees and online course fees being waived. Instructors are working hard to provide existing and new courses in creative ways. Students can find these courses in MyRED under class search using filters for subject and session date.
Summer session is a great way for students to keep on top of their studies, especially if they think they'll need some flexibility in the fall to achieve their academic goals. As always, UNL academic advisors can help students decide the best way to stay on their path to success.
