CAPS now offers numerous types of virtual sessions to connect students with counseling resources.

With the concerns surrounding COVID-19, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is introducing two new virtual services for students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. These new additions aim to make counseling even more accessible for students.

Let’s Talk
If you or your student are curious about mental health and what services might best fit their needs, Let’s Talk offers a great way to meet with counseling staff for a consultation in a confidential, more informal and brief manner. By attending Let’s Talk, your student will:

  • Learn more about what counseling services are like.
  • Receive brief consultation on solutions and suggestions to a current concern.
  • Get connected with a CAPS expert to talk about what to expect from counseling without having to be in a counseling setting.

Initial Evaluations
If your student is interested in counseling services, setting up an initial evaluation appointment is a good way to explore resources for your student at CAPS, at the university and within the community. A few things to know about Initial Evaluations:
  • These appointments are available on a same-day basis to help students access mental health services sooner, without the wait.
  • Students need to call CAPS on the day they are available to come in for the appointment. For example, if they know they are free on Thursday, call on Thursday.
  • During these appointments, information related to the student’s presenting concerns, needs and goals are discussed with the CAPS provider to discuss the next best steps for services.
  • By the end of this appointment, your student and the CAPS clinician will work together to decide on next best steps whether it be individual counseling, group counseling, community referrals or on-campus resources.

Counseling and Psychological Services remains ready to provide support for students. They can be contacted via phone, 402-472-7450. If you are interested in finding out more information about services, visit https://caps.unl.edu.
