Students can use volunteerism and community service to advance their degree and career

Civically-active students are highly desired by employers.
Civically-active students are highly desired by employers.

Serve. Learn. Lead. Employers want to hire people who think and can act with civic interests at heart. Students who engage in civic activities often make themselves more competitive for prestigious fellowships and graduate education.

UNL's Certificate for Civic Engagement (CCE) offers a record of civic-related activities that become part of a student's official academic transcript. To achieve this, students must first officially register for the CCE program. Discover more about the CCE.

The next round of virtual orientations will begin January 11–22, 2021. There are multiple sessions to make it easy to begin the certificate program.

During the 45-minute orientation, CCE coaches Dr. Kris Baack and Shridula Hegde will talk with students about:

  • the process and content of the CCE program.
  • brainstorming and discussing academic goals, strengths and gifts to share with others and the students' service passions.
  • the coaches will assist in completing the Action Plan for Civic Value 1.
Encourage your student to preregister now for an orientation session.

All orientations are held via Zoom. To arrange for an individual session that best fits your student's daily schedule, your student should email Dr. Kris Baack, kbaack1@unl.edu, or Shridula Hegde, shegde19@huskers.unl.edu.
