Nebraska sweeps Region V William N. Wasson Awards with six recipients

The award is named after NIRSA’s founder Dr. William N. Wasson and is given to 24 undergraduate and 12 graduate students nationwide each year. It recognizes outstanding undergraduate and graduate students who are active participants, employees or volunteers in collegiate recreational sports departments.

Criteria for the award include self-improvement through leadership, academic success, activities, volunteerism and promoting inclusion.

Nebraska is the only higher education institution in the nation to have at least one Wasson Award winner each year since the award’s inception in 1993. Nebraska also leads the nation in total recipients with over 90 awards.

Nebraska’s recipients this year are:

• Michael Anderson, a senior Accounting major from Firth, NE

• Brock Priebe, a senior Nutrition, Exercise & Health Science major from Lincoln, NE

• Rebeccah Stolpa, a senior Marketing and Management double-major from Hartland, WI

• Alli Johnson, a senior Veterinary Science major from Hastings, NE

• Jennifer Beres, a Community Nutrition & Health Promotion master’s degree graduate student from Libertyville, IL

• Kathrynne Nail, a Higher Education Administration master’s degree graduate student from Columbia, MO
