Applications for the Vice Chancellor’s Character Council are finally available! We are seeking students who have integrity. We are seeking students who want to improve campus culture, and have the drive, leadership and values to be excellent role models for others. Many organizations across campus are founded around academics, athletics, or hobbies and interests. The Vice Chancellor’s Character Council is geared for students who have an interest in leadership, character development, and recognizing others for their integrity in the community.
The purpose of the Vice Chancellor’s Character council is to grow the values of integrity and positive character across the UNL campus. The Vice Chancellor’s committee will serve as creative change agents in further developing the focus of the character council, and helping the character campaign (Show Your Red) grow into an actionable, liveable and visible set of values.

As a member of the committee what kind of things will you do?
• Student members will be responsible for recognizing students across campus for good character.
• Bestow awards, both formally and informally
• Build visibility of the student driven character campaign on campus
• Promote good character across campus.
• Develop creative training programs to certify individuals and campus organization/offices
• Hold values and integrity education programs for different groups on campus, classes, fraternities, residence hall associations etc.

As a relatively new organization, students who participate in the program will have an opportunity to shape the future of the council. Students who participate will be afforded an opportunity to:

• Build campus tradition, and foster good values in current and future generations of UNL students (Giving Back)
• Have sustained opportunities for mentorship.
• Plan programs and gain critical experience holding events, developing “soft skills and resume builders.”
• Work directly with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
• Be recognized with the label of an agent of character at UNL.
• Recognize dozens of students with non-academic, character based awards.

All completed Application Materials must be returned to the Center for Civic Engagement by: Friday, March 1st by 5:00 PM.
Please contact Greg Golden with the Center for Civic Engagement if you have any questions (505) 793-4566.
