Finding the Right Major

It is not uncommon for students to start out at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln being undecided in what major they want to pursue. In fact, one out of every five students who start at UNL do so undecided. Furthermore, many students who start out in one major may end up switching to another major at some point in their academic careers.
Fear not parents, students who take time to explore all of their career and major options can still graduate in four years. Students who actively engage in the major exploration process are more likely to continue on with the major that they have discovered.
There are several resources available to students who are undecided or may be having second-thoughts about their current major. The Exploratory and Pre-professional Advising Center (Explore Center) is staffed with professional advisors who can help students navigate their major options at UNL. The Explore Center is located in 127 Love Library South and advisors are happy to meet with any exploring student. Additionally, the Explore Center coordinates several major exploration programs available to students each semester. Information on these events and other Explore Center services can be found at explorecenter.unl.edu.
Another available resource for exploring students is Career Services located in 225 Nebraska Union. At Career Services, students can take career assessments, visit with career advisors, and utilize various resources to assist students in exploring careers and conducting job searches. Information that helps connects careers to majors may be found at: http://www.unl.edu/careers/explore-majors-and-careers and includes career paths of past UNL graduates.
UNL staff is excited to have exploring students here and remains committed to helping them achieve academic and career success.
