Summer is a great time for you and your UNL student to begin thinking about education abroad opportunities for 2015 and beyond! Students can choose from a variety of programs that allow them to study at foreign institutions, learn a language, intern, conduct research, or even take part in service learning activities while abroad. Students who are considering a summer, semester, year, or a short term education abroad experience should start thinking now about how to find a program that fits their educational plans, professional goals, and their budget. Often, programs that align with a student’s major can provide them with a unique international experience that will set them apart after graduation.

The UNL Education Abroad Office provides students with the opportunity to engage in meaningful, credit-earning opportunities in countries around the world. Students who receive scholarships and financial aid are, in many cases, able to apply their funding towards their program expenses.

Depending on your students’ degree program, most UNL students can study abroad anytime during their time at UNL. Students should work closely with their academic advisor to determine when the ideal time is for them. Some students take elective courses while abroad, while others try to find required courses they need to take while abroad to lower their time to degree completion or complete a language requirement. Students can even study abroad for ACE 9 credit!
