The Center for Sales Excellence in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration, named as a 2015 “Top University for Professional Sales Education” by the Sales Education Foundation (SEF), allows students of all degree programs to earn a certificate in professional selling.

Through this program, students learn to sell themselves to employers, pitch ideas and improve communication skills. They also have the opportunity to work in the sales lab, where presentations can be recorded and replayed for peers to provide feedback and advice.

Students wishing to participate in the sales certificate program must first enroll in Sales Communication (MRKT 257), during which they will have the option to apply for admittance to the program. A certificate in Professional Selling will be granted to those who complete the required 13 credit hours of certificate coursework and an advanced certificate can be earned by completing an additional three credit hours.

Participation in courses offered by the UNL CBA Center for Sales Excellence prepares students for careers in professional selling and helps them to earn internships in the sales industry.

The program has already established business partnerships with National Research Corporation (NRC), Sandhills Publishing, Assurity, ConAgra, Northwestern Mutual and Pacific Life.

“Sales is more than just selling a product, it’s selling an idea or achieving buy-in from people,” said Dr. Ravi Sohi, executive director of the Center for Sales Excellence, professor of marketing and Steinhart Foundation Distinguished Professor of Business. “The sales center teaches students to look at things in a broader perspective and to communicate their ideas to people.”
