You're 'Virtually' Hired

Since virtual fairs take place completely online, your student can have access to a wider variety of national employers without leaving their residence hall or apartment. It’s a cost-effective and efficient way to network with employers offering national full-time jobs, internships, and co-ops. In a virtual fair, students can apply for job and internship opportunities, learn about employers, and often engage in online chat sessions. Several of the virtual events are free for students and alumni across all majors and degrees. Watch video testimonials from virtual career fair participants to learn more.

Upcoming Virtual Career Fairs
Each year, Career Services promotes up to five virtual fairs. The upcoming Hire Big 10 Plus Virtual Career Fair is happening April 12-13, providing students and alumni an opportunity to meet employers live online in a virtual event.

If your student doesn’t have access to a computer or Internet, encourage them to reserve the Skype room located in the Career Services office, 225 Nebraska Union. To reserve the room, they can call (402) 472-3145.

To get event reminders, tell your student to ‘Like’ UNL Career Services on Facebook, follow @UNLCareers on Twitter and visit our online event calendar often.

How Students Can Prepare for a Virtual Career Fair
Just like a traditional career fair, your student should prepare their resume in advance of the fair. Free resume reviews are available in the Career Services office, 225 Nebraska Union. Students can call (402) 472-3145 to make an appointment with an advisor, or walk-in weekdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

We also encourage students to browse and research employers that will be participating in the fair. Since they will have the opportunity to chat online with employers, background knowledge on the organization will help your student gain instant credibility. Students should also make sure to get contact information from the recruiters they talk to, so they can follow up after the fair.
