Have you ever been welcomed to a new place for six weeks? Big Red Welcome aims to do just that! Beginning August 12, university departments and student organizations will host events to welcome new and returning students to campus.
For the best experience and to know about upcoming events, encourage your student to download the Big Red Welcome 2019 guide in the Husker Campus Guides app. In the app, students can build their personal calendars and set reminders for events.
Activities prior to classes beginning include Playfair: The Ultimate Ice Breaker, tours to map classes and visit downtown Lincoln, a variety of info sessions, fitness classes and recreation time, residence hall block parties, a dive-in movie (shown at the Campus Recreation pool), hypnotist performances, the New Student Convocation, the Chancellor's BBQ, the Class of 2023 Tunnel Walk, a foam party, the Party at the Union and the Big Red Welcome Street Festival.
Once classes begin, the fun doesn't stop! Students can connect with some of the 550 Recognized Student Organizations during the Club Fair, attend sessions to get organized for the semester, visit college kick off and welcome events, get free tickets for the Big Red Lied Experience: VoicePlay and participate in career fair activities.
These activities will help students engage with the campus and build relationships with classmates or new roommates. Encourage your student to make plans to attend events.
