Choose from over 20 highly affordable global experiential learning programs this summer. These Global Experiences cover a variety of subjects and address compelling global challenges – such as peace process negotiation, entrepreneurship in Rwanda, the rise of China, and the Black Lives Matter movement around the world. Adding a Global Experience to your portfolio will help make sure you are future and world ready!
Through hands-on activities, expert guest lecturers from abroad and virtual tours, you will have meaningful interactions with other cultures and countries without needing to travel overseas. These experiential programs differ from standard online courses in the replication of learning outcomes like those gained on education abroad programs. Thanks to funding provided through the Global Experiences Innovation Fund, any additional program costs beyond tuition and fees are covered by a scholarship to students.
Interested? Here’s what you need to know about the new Global Experiences programs:
1. You can still have a Global Experience at home.
The new Global Experiences programs from the Education Abroad Office offer the benefits of an international experience without physically going abroad. These courses highlight intercultural and experiential learning through engagement with people and groups from different places and cultures. By staying home, you maintain greater flexibility to engage with many different countries and cultures. Classes may focus on a single location, compare multiple locations, or interact with our global-local community.
2. Global Experiences are highly affordable and accessible.
These courses are not only accessible, but also highly affordable. All Global Experiences offered in summer 2021 will cost no more than $350 for all students, at a special rate of $116.55/credit hour. Even though these courses involve extra activities, there are no additional expenses beyond the special tuition rate and standard student fees*. Classes are offered in each summer session and have several flexible meeting types, including in-person, web-conferencing, and fully virtual. Nearly all Global Experiences courses are open to students of any major and some will even meet ACE requirements.
3. Global Experiences allow you to explore the many diverse cultures in our own community.
With many diverse cultures in the Lincoln area, the Global Experiences classes offer you the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of communities you might not often interact with. You can explore why people settled in Nebraska, how they got here, and what aspects of their cultures they brought – yes, that means food, too! These courses highlight the diversity that exists within our community and connect students with internationally focused organizations based here.
4. Global Remote Internships help you build your resume and network.
If you want to gain career experience, Global Remote Internships might be what you’re looking for. You will build tangible career skills and acquire international experience no matter where you might be this summer. The internships include a customized placement with a dedicated supervisor and career coaching. For your experience, you will earn 6 credit hours – but at a cost of $650, Global Remote Internships are a fraction of the cost of a similar class at Nebraska. On average, interns work approximately 25 remote hours per week, so you have the flexibility to take other summer classes or work a part-time job.
