2021 SCA USACE GIS Teams

Expected Dates: May 17, 2021 to September 18, 2021
Site: USACE (Army Corps of Engineers)
Position ID: PO-00730802

We are looking for 4 additional members to join this cohort and serve 5/17-9/20. The other 12 members of the program began in January 2021.

The SCA and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are looking for detail oriented, highly motivated, and independent people to join the 2021 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) inventory program. During this unique SCA-managed program, interns will work closely with USACE personnel to improve, and in many instances, create GIS data for districts throughout the country. Interns will be extremely mobile during the course of the season as USACE districts can cover multiple states and the teams may be visiting multiple districts.

USACE recreation areas receive some of the highest visitation of any areas in the federal system. In 2012 legislation was passed which directed USACE to update the geospatial databases for those recreation areas. This updated information is crucial for the proper allocation of federal road improvement dollars, as well as accurately informing resource managers and the public about the recreation facilities present at each USACE recreation area. The 2021 SCA USACE GIS Program is the continuation of a partnership which began in 2016 to fulfill that legislative mandate. Building upon our history with the Corps, this program will use field proven and refined techniques to accurately and efficiently verify and collect data using industry leading hardware and software from Trimble and ESRI.

The program composition will consist of 3 full time SCA staff, 2 Team Leaders and 14 Interns. At the conclusion of an initial 3-week training, the interns will be divided into 2 groups of 7 for the duration of the 32-week field season.
