CAS CAREER COACHING

CAS Career Coaches can provide information through presentations around a variety of career topics from application materials (resumes, cover letters, etc.), searching and identifying internship opportunities, how to network or connect with alumni/professionals in career interest areas, preparing for an interview, or understanding the graduate school process…and more! Hometown Diplomats
Thursday, March 3rd, 5-6pm, Curiosity Suite, 1007 Oldfather Hall (10th floor)
• Interested in working for the Department of State in the future? Hear from UNL alum, Kala Bokelman, Supervisory Special Agent from the Department of State Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), about her career journey
• Agent Bokelman has spent half of her career in DSS with investigating crimes involving human trafficking and smuggling, sexual assault, and fugitive returns
• Students who attend will have opportunities to learn about DSS and ask questions to Agent Bokelman about her experience

GAINING EXPERIENCE
Big Event Leadership Opportunities
• The Big Event is a one-day service project where students, faculty, and staff at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln show their appreciation for the surrounding community. Students volunteer in the local Lincoln community by helping community organizations and private residences do acts of service, like painting walls, cleaning garages, raking leaves, etc. The Big Event will take place this coming April 23rd from 12pm - 3:30pm with a lunch provided before service events begin. There are two different applications, the executive team, and operations staff. The executive team has a number of positions people can apply to such as being in charge of sponsorship, recruitment, etc. Operations staff are responsible for visiting job sites prior to The Big Event as well as visiting job sites on the day of the event. Undergraduate Student Intern at the Foster Care Review Office
• Foster Care Review Office (FCRO) has an opportunity for an undergraduate student intern to help our office track legislative bills and activity during the 2022 Nebraska legislative session. 
• The Foster Care Review Office is an independent state agency responsible for oversight of the foster care system in Nebraska.  In addition, the FCRO submits annual and quarterly reports to the legislature with data and information about children in out-of-home care in Nebraska.
• Location: In Lincoln office or remote
• Hours: 10 hours/week

2022 RAY DIVERSITY FELLOWSHIP
We are pleased to announce that the 2022 application cycle for the Roger Arliner Young (RAY) Diversity Fellowship⁠ is now open! The RAY Diversity Fellowship is a two-year (1-year with 1-year renewal), full-time position with partner conservation and clean energy organizations with the goal of increasing and facilitating environmentally-related career pathways for emerging leaders of color. RAY Fellows have worked in a variety of communications, climate, policy, research, education, fieldwork, and philanthropic capacities.
Eligibility & How to Apply
• Eligible applicants will:
• Come from a racial / ethnic background underrepresented in the environmental sector and demonstrate a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Be no more than 1 year out of college and have a Bachelor's Degree by August 2022 (we are not considering individuals with graduate degrees at this time)
• Have not had a full-time job in conservation or clean energy
• Have the ability to work in the United States and commit to the entire fellowship

Peace Corps Week
• Nebraska students can participate in the celebrations on campus with multiple opportunities to learn about becoming a Peace Corps volunteer and applying to the university’s Peace Corps Prep program. Information Booth at Nebraska Union — From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 28 to March 2, staff will be available at the Union booths to answer questions for students interested in applying for the Peace Corps Prep undergraduate program and for Peace Corps service after graduation.
• Peace Corps Prep Information Sessions from 4 to 4:30 p.m. March 1-2 for a virtual information sessions hosted via Zoom or March 4 from noon to 12:30 p.m. Registration is required in advance.

Legal Intern Position
• Bruning Law Group in downtown Lincoln is looking for hard-working students to fill a few legal intern positions for the remaining spring semester and for the summer. Duties include conducting legislative research, drafting, and editing documents, performing organizational tasks, and completing other duties as assigned. This position will report to the Special Projects Coordinator and requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and critical thinking. Interns will gain experience in a professional environment while interacting with attorneys and other support staff.

Maternal & Reproductive Healthcare for BIPOC Women
Wednesday, March 9th, 2;30-3:45, Pioneers Room in Willa Cather Dining Complex
• You are invited to participate in an important conversation about "Maternal & Reproductive Healthcare for BIPOC Women". We will explore topics including prenatal care, access/barriers to care and birth control, and post-natal care for the child and the mother, both physical and emotional. This conversation will feature medical professionals, scholars, and advocates working to improve maternal healthcare outcomes for women of color. The topic ties to this year’s E. N. Thompson Forum on World Issues theme around racial equity and action, and coincides with Women's History Month and International Women's Day.
This conversation will feature:
• Deirdre Cooper Owens, PhD, Charles and Linda Wilson Professor in the History of Medicine and Director, Humanities in Medicine, UNL
• Kathy Leeper, MD, FAAP, IBCLC, FABM, Breastfeeding Medicine Specialist and Medical Director, MilkWorks
• The discussion leaders will share their background and expertise and then students will continue the conversation in small groups with the leaders and peer facilitators.

Gap Year Opportunity – Orthopedic Surgery Research in New York City
