Favorite book and why?
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath because I love Plath’s writing and her blatant yet real description of life.
Favorite movie and why?
Napoleon Dynamite because dry humor is peak humor.
Why Geology and Anthropology?
I chose to study geology because I was always the kid digging in the dirt to find cool rocks and fossils. That passion grew with me as I aged and I wanted to pursue
something I would enjoy forever, such as environmental sciences. Plus I get to look at cool rocks all day.
I loved taking Anthropology courses when I first started at UNL as ACE courses. I used the ACE requirements as a chance to take classes that didn’t necessarily apply to my major and I loved them so much I added a minor! Also, my geology classes are very hands on and we get
a good amount of field experiences. For instance, I took a trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota and got to do so many cool things like tour a cave and visit an old quarry. If you like hands on earth science , geology is the place to be!
Extracurricular Experiences:
I am a Buffet scholar and I have used the scholarship foundation to connect with so many opportunities. I
became a mentor on campus to incoming freshman my sophomore year and now I am an Undergraduate Assistant. I also intern at the International Quilt Museum and have been since last January. I recently began a job at a Sedimentology Research Lab at UNL as well and will be continuing that. I have made all of these connections and have gotten the chance at the experiences because of the people at the William H. Thompson Scholar community.
Post-Graduation Plans:
As of now, I am looking into graduate school and getting my masters degree in environmental science. I would like to go out of state and perhaps to Minnesota. That being said I am taking my opportunities as they come and I am excited for what the future brings!
