Field School at Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania

We are professors who will be teaching our annual summer field course in paleoanthropology and geology in the world’s famous archaeological site - Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania. Our 4-week, 6-credit course Paleoanthropology and Geology Field School at Olduvai, Tanzania, is administered by Indiana University.
This course fills an important niche in available field courses because it emphasizes the integration of geological and paleoanthropological principles and techniques of understanding evolutionary processes of Pleistocene hominins. The course is targeted toward beginning to intermediate undergraduate students in geology, archaeology, and anthropology, and we have places for graduate students as well. We had a very successful offering of the course in previous years and look forward to the same in summer 2025.
