Job Opening: Archives & Digital Asset Manager

The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) is pleased to announce an opening for an Archives & Digital Asset Manager, a full-time, temporary (two-year), on-site position based in Lincoln, Nebraska. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of archives, digital preservation, and public history while contributing directly to the stewardship and accessibility of an important cultural heritage collection.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Archives & Digital Asset Manager will oversee the management, preservation, and accessibility of AHSGR’s archival collections and digital assets. The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting researchers and patrons, processing and preparing archival materials for digitization, and helping implement AHSGR’s first digital asset management system. This position is ideal for someone with training or experience in archives, library and information science, or digital asset management who is eager to apply both technical skills and historical knowledge in a mission-driven organization.

Key responsibilities include providing research assistance to internal and external patrons; managing archival collections in accordance with professional standards; developing and maintaining metadata schemas and controlled vocabularies; and establishing workflows for both digitized and born-digital materials. The Archives & Digital Asset Manager will also collaborate with staff on exhibitions (online and on-site), outreach initiatives, and programs that further AHSGR’s mission, while supervising volunteers and student interns within the archives.

In addition to collection-focused work, this position contributes to broader organizational efforts, including visitor engagement, online content creation, and planning for events such as AHSGR’s annual convention. The role also includes oversight of archival security, environmental controls, and disaster preparedness planning for the Heritage Center.

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Archival Studies, Archives and Special Collections, or a related field, or possess equivalent certification. Demonstrated experience with archival and digital asset management systems is required, while familiarity with Germans from Russia history is welcomed but not mandatory. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively with researchers, staff, and the public are essential.

This is a full-time, on-site position with work hours Monday through Friday and some schedule flexibility, along with occasional evenings, weekends, and limited travel. Compensation is $18.00 per hour, with benefits including accrued PTO, paid holidays, paid leave from Christmas through New Year’s Day, a retirement plan with employer match, and a healthcare/insurance premium allowance.

To apply, please submit a letter of interest, résumé, and three professional references (all in PDF format) to ahsgr@ahsgr.org

Applications must be received no later than January 30, 2026, with interviews scheduled to begin in February 2026.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for early- to mid-career professionals interested in archives, digital humanities, and public history to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the preservation and sharing of a rich and meaningful historical legacy.
