My name is Michaela Dreeszen and I am junior from Lincoln, NE. I am a Global Studies major with a Spanish minor. My favorite book is The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown because it is a mystery thriller that looks at the history of religion in the United States and many secrets right under our noses. My favorite dish is tacos because the varieties are endless. Tacos of any kind are enough to make me happy!

I picked Global Studies because I care about making the world smaller. It is important to acknowledge the differences in each culture, but at the end of the day we are all human. My favorite and most impacting class I have taken is Psychology of Immigration. It really opened up my eyes to the kinds of struggles people go through in my own community that I had been blind to previously. It led me to start volunteering at Lincoln Literacy. I am also currently taking Latin American Politics with Dr. Wals and he is just brilliant and has so much insight to offer the class. My advice to incoming Global Studies majors is to take a variety of classes because you don't always know exactly what you want to do right away. Explore and discover your interests!

I am going abroad to Valparaíso, Chile in the Spring for a semester and I couldn't be more excited. I will be learning about the relationship between the United States and Chile and how the United States works with the rest of Latin America.

I am hoping to volunteer for the Peace Corps post graduation for two years. Then after the Peace Corps, get a job or internship with a United States Foreign Embassy. I love speaking Spanish and building relationships with other people in different cultures. I am looking forward to traveling and learning about different global issues and solutions!
