Plan to attend this year’s banquet, at the Unitarian Church of Lincoln
commemorating the anniversary of the UN Founding in San Francisco in 1945
The main speaker will be Mr. Michael Stopford, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Affairs at the University of Nebraska at Kearney
Michael Stopford, heads the UNK Office of International Education, international development, and global engagement programs. He came to UNK in 2015 from Weber Shandwick, a public affairs firm based in Washington, where he directed the Global Corporate Strategy and International Higher Education at DC, and served as Sr. Assistant to the President for International Affairs at American University. Michael’s professional career began with the UK Diplomatic Service in New York and Vienna. He joined the United Nations and served in the New York headquarters, as Chief of Staff of the UN Geneva Office and as Director of the Washington Office. He then headed PR for the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation, and was later responsible for Strategic Communications with NATO in Brussels, where he also headed the Science for Peace and Security program. In the private sector, Michael was charged with international public affairs for the agribusiness multinational Syngenta in Basel, Switzerland and for ExxonMobil and Coca-Cola in the U.S.
