Favorite Book: Mrs. Bridge by Evan S. Connell. I absolutely love this book because it taught me that personal growth doesn’t always happen during big and grandiose events, but most often they happen during periods of quiet reflection. I’ve definitely found that to be true in my life and I think Connell did a lovely job of capturing that concept.

Favorite Movie: The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson. I’ve always been a huge Wes fan, but he did a stellar job of creating a beautiful aesthetic in this film, which immediately captured my heart. If you’re looking for a (mostly) lighthearted movie full of flavor, definitely give it a try!

Why Global Studies: I chose Global Studies because I’ve always been a traveler and have been drawn to other cultures, languages, and places where I can put my skills to use. I think my major(s) will give me the opportunity to immerse myself in new experiences and will equip me with all the tools I’ll need for my future. My favorite class this semester has definitely been Modern Latin America. Coming from a European family meant that I was always fascinated with that culture, but this class is giving me the chance to learn of the history and development of an area I don’t know as much about. My advice for prospective and new Global Studies students would be to ASK QUESTIONS! You never know when the thing you’re afraid to ask about may change your whole outlook on life.

Upcoming Plans: My plan for next fall is to study at Arcadia University in Edinburgh, where I’ll be able to take Pre-Law and Spanish classes that will count for my major here at UNL. I’m excited to explore an area in Europe I’ve not been to before and to learn valuable lessons for my future.

Post-Graduation Plans: After graduating from UNL, my plan is to attend law school to receive my degree in Tribal Law, which I hope to use for the good of the people on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Indian Reservations in western South Dakota. I also hope to start a non-profit business on the Pine Ridge Reservation that will give housing and jobs to men and women who are looking to better their community.
