Fall 2018 in underway! My name is Timothy Turnquist, the major advisor for Global Studies. It gives me great pride to welcome you—or welcome you back—to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I am excited to be advising for Global studies, an interdisciplinary major with a dedicated faculty. In the College of Arts and Sciences, we embrace the value of Academics + Experience = Opportunities. Therefore, I encourage you to connect with your professors and with me, your advisor, if you have any questions or concerns moving forward. Also, UNL offers amazing resources to help you succeed such as the First-Year Experience & Transition Program, which offer a variety of success/academic workshops.
For advising, you’ll find me in 403 Oldfather Hall. In October, I—along with Global Studies—will be moving to Louise Pound Hall, formerly the old College of Business Administration. I will be able to give more moving-day information as October approaches.
In the weekly Global Studies newsletter, pay attention to the Advisor’s Corner for information on deadlines and other major/university-related information:
• I am taking walk-in appointments only from August 20 to August 28. Walk-ins can last up to 20 minutes, and deal mostly with immediate course/enrollment concerns. There will be a sign-up sheet next to my office door; this will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Starting August 29, I will be taking regular 30-minute appointments, as well as walk-in hours on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons until Priority Registration. Appointments are best for more in-depth graduation and semester planning, problem solving, as well as internship, study abroad, and fellowship queries. Search for my name on MyPlan and make an appointment there. Select the time slot that works best for you!
• September 28 is the final day for seniors to apply for degree in December. You can apply for your degree via MyRed. Click on the ACADEMICS tab, and then clock on Fall 2018 application for graduation link. There is a $25.00 degree fee billed to your student account.
• Spring 2019 Priority Registration will begin October 22 and last till November 6. It is never too early to be thinking about spring courses. Before priority registration, make an appointment with me to discuss your spring classes, and if you are a Probation II student, you will need to work closely with me—your Academic Recovery Guide—to create an Academic Recovery Plan that will result in your advising hold being lifted.
Have a great Fall 2018!
