Favorite Book: I haven’t read a good book in awhile, but I would have to say that “In the Garden of Beasts” by Erik Larson is one of my favorite books. It’s a historical nonfiction book following the diplomat to Germany leading up to and during the Third Reich. I found it to be informational and relevant to my studies but written in a story format so it’s not dry by any means.

Favorite Movie: I don’t think I really have a favorite movie, but The Office is my go-to when I need a pick-me-up or want to binge watch something!

Why Global Studies?
I chose Global Studies after doing an exchange year during my senior year of high school. I knew after that experience that I wanted to continue learning German, as well as learn more about the region but specify my studies to my interests. I also had (and still have) a desire to positively impact our world and show how connections across cultures can do amazing things.

Advice for other Global Studies students:
I would advise new Global Studies majors to take a variety of classes to figure out your interests but also to tailor your major to you, since we have that opportunity as Global Studies majors.

Study Abroad Experience:
I just got back this summer from studying abroad in Berlin. A typical day would include intense German language classes for a good portion of the day, followed by a well-deserved dessert/snack, usually coffee and cake or occasionally Döner. Usually once or twice during the week we’d have cultural excursions, such as going to an opera or visiting historical sites. In our free time we could travel and do our own exploring of the city.

Post-Graduation Plans:
As far as post-graduation plans go, I don’t have any concrete plans, but I’d like to get some hands-on experience with an NGO or in the non-profit sector.
