Parking permits

Parking permits for the 2024-2025 academic year are now available for preorder. There is no increase in cost.
These permits are part of the License Plate Recognition system; vehicle license plates serve as permit identification.

Annual permits take effect July 1. Nine-month permits are effective beginning August 19.

A parking permit is required for any vehicle parked in designated areas of the Lincoln campus.
To be included in the License Plate Recognition parking permit system, faculty and staff must register their vehicles online and pay designated permit fees. The vehicle is then eligible to park in assigned campus areas.

PREORDER YOUR PERMIT ONLINE.
To use the online purchase process, select the area and type of permit you want, choose payment option, and provide vehicle registration information.
• Permit options are detailed at https://parking.unl.edu/faculty-parking-options
• Make permit purchase online at https://parking.unl.edu/faculty-parking-permit-purchase-guide
• Verify and update vehicle and license information during purchase process. Accurate license information serves as your actual parking permit.

Permit holders for surface lots will not automatically receive a physical permit or sticker to display in the vehicle.
With the exception of the 19th and Vine Street garage, a garage hang tag accompanies each garage parking permit. Garage permit hang tags contain RFID which uses radio frequency signals to operate gate readers. Each tag is valid only in the assigned garage. It will be mailed to the address provided during purchase.

Surface lot and 19th and Vine Street garage permit holders can request a Permit Event Sticker. It verifies License Plate Recognition system participation for parking attendants and must be displayed for parking during major campus events, including state high school championships and home football games. There is no additional cost for the sticker.

To receive the Permit Event Sticker, use your official UNL email account and send a request to Parking and Transit Services at unlpts@unl.edu
It will be mailed to your campus address.

With the exception of the 19th and Vine Street garage, all other garage permit holders do not need an event sticker, but should display their garage permit for campus event parking.

Free Bus Passes
In support of campus sustainability efforts, Parking and Transit Services will offer all faculty, staff and retirees StarTran bus passes at no cost.

Bus services provided through StarTran connect City, East and Innovation campuses with full day schedules. The bus passes are also good for all StarTran routes in the city.

“We are pleased to offer this new benefit. It allows employees and riders to take advantage of sustainable transportation options at no cost,” said Dan Carpenter, Director, Parking and Transit Services.

The bus passes will become available in July through the online Token Transit app.
Parking and Transit Services newsletters in June will include steps to order the free bus pass.
