Statewide Tornado Drill 10am Wed 3/26/25 - Plan Accordingly

Hardin Hall
Hardin Hall

The Statewide Tornado drill is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 10:00am during Severe Weather Awareness week, March 24-28. You will be able to return to work by 10:10am. We participate in this drill to provide an opportunity for our faculty, students, and staff to learn and practice taking shelter, which is especially important given the number of severe weather events in recent years.

City sirens will sound, UNL Alerts will be sent and posted to websites/social media, and the building announcement system will instruct people to take shelter. HarH's tornado shelter is anywhere in the basement (e.g., classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, etc.) -- except for rooms with chemicals or hazards (27, 32, 59B).

If you are in the basement, stay in the basement.

If you are in any other location:
     1. collect personal belongings (if immediately accessible)
2. take the nearest stairs and go to the basement
3. take shelter in hallways, restrooms, offices

People with mobility issues who are unable to use the stairs are approved to use the elevator to go to the basement during a drill. If it is not a drill, go to a room without windows (e.g., inner office or restroom).

NOTE: UNL Alert has been loaded with everyone's primary email address. To remove your email address, sign up for a text alert, or for more information, go to https://safety.unl.edu/unlalert
