Tips, tricks & other helpful hints: SharePoint

As a new feature for "Inside SNR," Karen Jensen—software users group coordinator at the School of Natural Resources—will regularly offer quick tips and tricks designed to make life a little easier for faculty, staff and students using Microsoft system software, such as Outlook and Office.

This week: "SharePoint—What is it and how to get to it"

---

SharePoint is a collaboration tool which allows groups of people to share files, calendars, track task work and completion, and keep lists of useful data, among other things. SNR has a SharePoint site and several groups in it. Some are school-wide and others are workgroup specific. All faculty, staff, and graduate students should have access to the main SNR SharePoint site and the Software Users Group site. Access to other groups is at the discretion of the site owner.

Main SNR SharePoint site features:
■ A photo gallery with faculty, staff, and graduate student profile picture
■ Shared Documents including minutes from various committees and the SNR By-laws

Software Users Group site features helpful "how-to" documents for various software including, but not limited to:
■ Access
■ ActivityInsight
■ Excel
■ Outlook-Office 365
■ PowerPoint
■ SharePoint
■ Word

It is not all-inclusive but can be a starting point for seeking help when a problem arises. It is regularly updated as new questions are asked and answered.

Access the main SNR SharePoint site in one of two ways:
■ At the bottom of every SNR webpage under SNR Employees click on “SharePoint Collaboration”
■ Go to http://go.unl.edu/snrsharepoint/ (This is a GO Short Link)

In each case you will go directly to the SharePoint site. If you are asked to login to access the site or as you open a file, you will need to use your regular computer login. (If the domain in the login dialog box does not show UNL-AD try using a different browser.)
