“Using the iPlant cyberinfrastructure to explore the potential connection between heterosis, cellular aging, and intracellular protein metabolism,” will be presented by Dr. Stephen Goff, University of Arizona. A novel theory of heterosis and cellular aging is being tested with the iPlant Collaborative cyberinfrastructure tools and will be presented. Gene expression profiling via RNA-Seq was used. The biological evidence in support of these models and the results of the gene expression profiling will be described. This analysis approach demonstrates that the iPlant Discovery Environment can be used efficiently for RNA-Seq analysis pipelines for plant or animal systems.
The seminar begins at 4:00 p.m., preceded by a reception at 3:30 p.m. The seminar is free and open to the public. The Beadle Center is located at 1901 Vine Street. The complete schedule of seminars may be found at http://biotech.unl.edu/
