“The Ecology of Algal Biofuels Production,” will be presented by Dr. Val Smith, University of Kansas. It is argued that a community engineering approach that manages algal diversity, species composition, and environmental conditions may lead to more robust and productive biofuel ponds. I review evidence for tradeoffs, challenges, and opportunities in algal biofuel production with a goal of guiding research toward intensifying bioenergy production using established principles of aquatic community and ecosystem ecology.
The seminar begins at 4:00 p.m., preceded by a reception at 3:30 p.m. The seminar is free and open to the public. The Beadle Center is located at 1901 Vine Street. The complete schedule of seminars may be found at http://biotech.unl.edu/
