Nebraska Master Naturalist Welcomes Applications for Spring Training Program

The Nebraska Master Naturalist program, a state-wide organization that trains and networks conservation volunteers, is currently seeking applications for this spring’s training program.

A natural resource conservation training certification program, Nebraska Master Naturalist recruits, trains, manages, and rewards conservation volunteers around the state of Nebraska. Partnered with over 30 natural resource agencies and organizations, the Master Naturalist program provides adults with the skills and knowledge they need to become effective volunteers in the field.

Master Naturalist-trained volunteers learn about ecological principles, conservation biology, outreach and interpretation skills, various species native to Nebraska, consumptive and non-consumptive outdoor activities, and particular concerns specific to different types of ecosystems.

Experts conduct 60-hour hands-on training courses that prepare Master Naturalist volunteers for their future work in the field. After receiving the training, volunteers are required to give 20 hours of service and participate in 8 hours of continuing education annually.

The Nebraska Master Naturalist chapter is part of a national alliance promoting the success of conservation efforts through professionally-trained volunteers. Nebraska’s own Master Naturalist program has saved organizations in Nebraska over $160,000 in training-related expenses, making the program both beneficial to the environment and groups who seek to protect the environment.

Interested volunteers must be 19 or older, apply to the Nebraska Master Naturalist program, and clear an interview and background check. Spring training will be held at Fontenelle Forest on Saturdays between March 16th and May 4th.
