All UNL students may now opt-in for 50 gigabytes of secure, online storage at no charge through an agreement between UNL and Box.com. Box account holders can share and collaborate on digital files with others using virtually any device. Accounts are accessed securely via MyUNL login credentials. Students will be able to transition their UNL Box account to a personal account upon graduation.
To address privacy concerns, student participation is strictly optional and Box accounts will not be required for any class or coursework. When students opt-in to enable email notifications, a UNL-issued email address will be created. This email address will forward messages to the preferred email address provided in MyRED. Students personal email addresses will never be sent to Box or revealed to other Box participants. UNL faculty and staff accounts became available in February and there are currently more than 1,200 users and 2.07 terabytes of data.
As participating members in Internet2, a higher education technology consortium, UNL and UNO signed a contract with Box on Feb. 1. University of Nebraska Central Administration, UNMC and the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, Neb., are also participating in the agreement.
