Stewart Mills, Peace Corps recruiter for Nebraska and Kansas, will host an information table from 9:30-1:30 p.m. in Hardin Hall (first floor lobby) on most Thursdays throughout the spring 2015 semester.
"I hope to be able to have one-on-one conversations with students and professors who are already interested in the Peace Corps, as well as introducing the opportunities and benefits of the Peace Corps to people who are unfamiliar," Mills said. "I also want to use this table as a place for people to learn about my service as an English teacher and teacher trainer in Cambodia, and help applicants with the new application process."
While visiting the information table, students and professors can expect to learn about the Peace Corps, the benefits and how to apply to the Corps.
"I will also have materials about the graduate school opportunities with Peace Corps, as well as the types of positions available in all the sectors, including the agriculture and environmental areas," Mills said.
Mills' primary assignment during her time in the Peace Corps was teaching English to 7th graders at a local school in Cambodia. She also had secondary projects including an art club and a writing workshop.
"Working for the Peace Corps is unlike any other job," Mills said. "No day is the same, and success can be measured by how many seeds you planted in the school garden that morning, how a child demonstrated correctly how to wash her hands, or even bargaining a good price for bananas at the market in the afternoon. I enjoy the phase, 'It's the toughest job you'll ever love,' because it speaks to how the volunteer experience – while having many ups and downs – will be worth it in the end."
Mills' Peace Corp Recruiter office hours in Hardin Hall are as follows:
9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Most Thursdays throughout the spring 2015 semester: 1/22, 2/5, 2/19, 3/12, 3/19, 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30.
Mills will also have office hours on UNL's City Campus at Career Services in the Nebraska Union from 9 a.m. – noon on Tuesdays.
