The University of Nebraska State Museum in Morrill Hall and the International Quilt Study Center and Museum are two of more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense.
Morrill Hall and the quilt center will offer free admission to active-duty military personnel including the National Guard and Reserve and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day as part of the Blue Star Museum program. The complete list of participating museums is available at http://arts.gov/national/blue-star-museums.
"Military personnel and their families contribute so much in serving their country and our communities," said Dr. Priscilla Grew, NU State Museum director. "We are delighted to offer them Blue Star free admission so they can enjoy the exciting science exhibits and educational activities in Morrill Hall this summer."
Leslie Levy, the quilt center's director, said: "This summer, visitors will have an opportunity to view our recently expanded galleries, which open in June. We look forward to sharing our growing international collection and world-class exhibitions."
The free admission program is available to anyone with a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID) or DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military -- Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps -- and up to five family members. Some special or limited-time museum exhibits may not be included in the free-admission program. For information on particular exhibits or museums, contact the museum directly.
