Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake in Oklahoma felt in Nebraska and surrounding states

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck in Oklahoma on February 13, 2016 at 11:07:06 am local time. The earthquake was centered near Fairview in northwestern Oklahoma. Reports indicate it was also felt in Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico and Texas.

This is the largest earthquake in Oklahoma since the magnitude 5.6 earthquake in 2011. The 2011 earthquake was centered in Prague, about 55 miles east of Oklahoma City.

There has been an active sequence of events in this area over the last few months, with several earthquakes in the magnitude 3-4 range. The previous largest earthquake in this sequence was a magnitude 4.8 in January 2016.
