Diabetes is a serious disease. Nearly 30 million children and adults in the United States live with it. More than a quarter of them—8 million—don’t even know they have it and aren’t getting the medical care they need. It’s estimated that another 86 million people have prediabetes, which puts them at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. People with prediabetes have blood glucose (sugar) higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
By understanding your risk, you can take the necessary steps to help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. That’s why UNL is participating in American Diabetes Association Alert Day®. On March 22, you are encouraged to take a simple (and anonymous) one-minute test to find out if you are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
Fill out the Diabetes risk assessment at http://go.unl.edu/alertday to determine your risk, then sign up for a FREE 15 minute mini consultation with a nutrition professional. During the consultation we will discuss your risk factors and make suggestions to minimize your diabetes risk. For more information contact Amanda Robine (arobine3@unl.edu)
