These students from SNR recently earned awards or honors:

Catherine Finkenbiner, graduate student, studying hydrogeophysics and ecohydrology, was selected to receive DavidH. & Annie E. Larrick Student Travel Funds. She will attend the 2016 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, the largest Earth and space science meeting in the world, which will be Dec. 12 to 16 in San Francisco, California. The Fall Meeting is expected to have more than 24,000 participants from around the globe and will offer more than 1,700 scientific program sessions. The meeting also offers more than 20,000 oral and poster presentations, including one by Finkenbiner: "Integration of hydrogeophysical datasets for improved water resource management in irrigated systems."

Azar Mohammad Abadi Kamarei, Earth and atmospheric sciences graduate student, was selected to receive DavidH. & Annie E. Larrick Student Travel Funds. He will attend the 97th Annual American Meteorological Society Meeting on Jan. 22 to 26 in Seattle, Washington. More than 3,500 scientists, educators, students and other professionals from the weather, water and climate community will attend the event to share, learn and collaborate. The theme is “Observations Lead the Way.”

Maggi Sliwinski, doctoral student in applied ecology, has been selected to receive an Irvin A. and Agnes E. Nelson Memorial Fellowship. Funds from the fellowship are to be used for professional development, purposes related to research or for the student’s training. Students are selected for this award based on their academic achievement as well as for their potential for contributing to natural resource conservation. Sliwinski is studying native grasslands in the Northern Great Plains, with the goal of bringing together ranching and landscapes for the benefits of both.
