Congratulations to the 10 SNR students who received scholarships from local chapters of the Izaak Walton League at the League's statewide annual meeting on Sunday, Jan. 22, in Hardin Hall.
Jared Barjenbruch and Alec Wong each received $500 from IKE-Nebraska.
Shawn Smith received $300 from IKE-Jessie Benton Fremont
Jacob Koenig received $500 from IKE-Lincoln.
Sarah Moy and Kyle O’Connell each received $400 from IKE-Fremont.
Dylan Maag received $300 from IKE-Grand Island.
Jean-Paul Montes received $300 from IKE-Platte Valley.
Lauren Thompson received $958 from IKE-Nebraska Division of the Izaak Walton League of America endowment fund.
Sarah Moy received $250 from Roy and Sue Carlstrom, IKE-Fremont.
Representatives of the School of Natural Resources made presentations to the League during the morning. The schedule included a Wildlife Club update from Monica Keep and others; "A new focus on environmental education," by Lisa Pennisi; "Managing rangelands for prairie chickens in the Sandhills," by Larkin Powell and Lars Anderson; an update on the Nebraska Master Naturalist program, by Annabel Major; "Influence of spatial scale on fish species richness in the Niobrara River," by Adam Behmer; "Wind energy and wildlife/habitat concerns," by Caroline Jezierski; and "Effects of traffic noise on avian communication," by Amy Larson.
The afternoon program included the IWL annual meeting and a legislative update.
