Course Renamed and Milestone Reached!

In order to provide you with a more robust newsletter, we are moving to annual distribution of our Strive to Thrive Lincoln Update. Read on to learn about the 2023-24 academic year.

The 2023-24 academic year was remarkable, with two noteworthy events. First, the official name of MNGT 411 became Philanthropy and Leadership. This change was implemented to better reflect course content. Second, we reached a milestone dollar amount in grants allocated to the Lincoln community: $150,000!

No two semesters of Strive to Thrive Lincoln (StTL) look identical as we experiment with different approaches to grantmaking. Regardless of the process we use, the desired course objectives remain consistent. They are:

1) Gain awareness of and appreciation for the community where we live.
2) Learn about leadership and philanthropy potential.
3) Recognize the gifts, opportunities and privileges we have been given.

The Fall 2023 class collected applications from 22 nonprofits focusing on education (ranging from early childhood to adult). From there, they conducted site visits with 10 finalists.

The Spring 2024 class considered 12 previous StTL grant contenders who serve a variety of community needs. Each of the 12 was researched and evaluated throughout the grant process.
